A 25-year-old Baldwin Park resident suffered critical injuries Thursday after losing control of his car and causing a two-vehicle crash in Long Beach.
The accident happened about 7:25 a.m. on Stearns St., just east of McNab Ave. The driver of a white 1985 Mazda GSL was traveling westbound on Stearns at an excessive speed for the rainy conditions. The driver lost control of his car, veered into on-coming lanes, and then spun out. The Mazda was then broadsided by a 2009 gray Nissan Rogue which was driven by a 39-year-old female Long Beach resident. The Nissan came to rest on its side.
Despite wearing a seatbelt, the Mazda driver was launched out of the car's hatchback window due to the force of the impact. The driver was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in extremely critical condition.
The 39-year-old female driver was also transported to a local hospital.
