A single vehicle car crash in Long Beach Saturday night left two people dead.
The accident happened on Redondo Ave., near a 405 freeway overpass at about 6:20 p.m.
Mark Martineau, a 36-year-old Seal Beach resident, was driving northbound on Redondo Ave. in a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500. Martineau lost control of his truck as he attempted to change lanes. His truck careened over a sidewalk and slammed into a pylon underneath the 405 Freeway.
Heavy rainfall had caused water to build up on the roadway. Investigators from the Long Beach Police Department believe Martineau was driving at an excessive speed for the rainy conditions.
Martineau was declared dead at the scene of the accident. His rear seat passenger, Richard McAleavey, a 54-year-old Long Beach resident, was also pronounced dead at the scene. According to police, McAleavey was not wearing a seat belt. The truck's front seat passenger, 36-year-old Terrence Harris of Long Beach, was transported to a local hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.
