A five-vehicle accident in Orange left one driver dead.
The accident happened on Saturday about 11 a.m. at the intersection of Taft Ave. and Tustin St, near the 55 overpass.
According to witnesses, Xuan Tran, a 30-year-old Garden Grove resident, was speeding eastbound on Taft Ave. and ran a red light. Taft dead-ends at Tustin. Tran, who was driving a green Toyota compact, slammed into a full-size red pickup truck which was southbound on Tustin. Tran kept going, and then struck a wall on the east side of Tustin.
The collision caused the pickup truck to flip over onto its side and slam into a white Ford compact which was northbound on Tustin St. The pickup truck continued to spin out of control and then slammed into a gold Toyota compact.
Both the driver of the pickup truck and the driver of the white Ford compact, a woman in her 50's, were taken to a hospital.
The gold Toyota had two occupants, a woman and her grandson, both of whom reported minor injuries.
Tran was declared dead at the scene of the accident.
According to Orange police Sergeant Fred Lopez, no one was at fault for this multi-vehicle accident except Tran.
In a situation such as this accident, where there are potentially multiple victims who will be making injury claims against Tran's insurance policy, there is a good chance that Tran will not have enough insurance to cover everyone's claims. If that is the case, and if Tran's insurance policy limit is insufficient to cover everyone's claim, then the injury victims may be able to make underinsured motorist claims under their own auto insurance policies.
