Friday evening, a pedestrian was struck by a car and killed near Cal State Long Beach.
The accident happened at 6:58 p.m. The pedestrian, 59-year-old Stephen Spado, a San Pedro resident, was in the middle of the intersection of 7 th St. and Peppertree Ln.
The car, a white Range Rover, struck the pedestrian in the 6300 block of East 7 th St. Spado was pronounced deat at the scene of the accident. The car's driver, who remained at the scene after the accident, cooperated with police.
According to witnesses, the pedestrian stepped off the curb into traffic. The Long Beach Police Department has put the pedestrian at fault for the accident. Detectives say the driver had no time to stop or avoid the collision.
