A hit-and-run driver crashed into three cars in front of Long Beach City College on Wednesday, killing a woman.
The accident occurred about 11:15 a.m. at Carson St. and Clark Ave. According to the Long Beach Police Department, the hit-and-run driver, Mario Palafox, 21-years-old, was speeding down Carson on the wrong side of the road in a 1992 Lexus sedan. Palafox lost control of his car, went up onto the median, and crashed into three cars waiting to turn left onto Clark.
The driver of the first car struck, Elan Logay, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Logay was a professor at Santa Ana College and mother of two daughters.
A witness helped Palafox, the hit-and-run driver, out of his vehicle. Palafox then fled onto the college campus. Officers located Palafox near the campus auditorium and arrested him. He was taken into custody on suspicion of vehicular homicide, felony hit and run, and being an unlicensed driver.
