3-Car Crash on 605 Freeway in Los Alamitos Leaves 1 Dead, 2 Injured

|

Three vehicles collided on the 605 Freeway in Los Alamitos on Sunday, leaving one person dead and two people injured.

The multi-vehicle accident happened about 2:00 a.m. on the southbound 605 Freeway in Los Alamitos, just south of Katella Ave., according to Orange County Fire Authority Captain Steven Concialdi. Apparently, the crash resulted when one car rear-ended another car, causing the rear-ended car to go out of control.

23-year-old Brenda Coronel, who was a passenger in a 2001 Honda driven by her sorority sister, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Her driver, who is also in her 20’s, was transported to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center with moderate injuries.

A man who was driving a 2007 BMW sustained moderate injuries and was also transported to Long Beach Memorial.

Multi-Vehicle Accident – Who’s At Fault?

If you are injured in a multi-car accident, it is best to seek the advice of a personal injury lawyer regarding who you should make a claim against. You don’t necessarily make a claim against all of the drivers. You make the claim only against the negligent driver or drivers who caused or contributed to impact to your vehicle. Sometimes fault for a multi-car crash will rest entirely on one driver. Just as often, however, there is fault attributable to more than one driver.

A personal injury attorney will review the police report, property damage photographs, skid marks, and statements from all involved parties and all witnesses. If a video surveillance camera in the area captured the accident, that evidence will be critical to help determine liability.

If a police report will not be ready for several months, such as an LAPD police report (which can take three to four months), then oftentimes the parties will be kept hanging by the insurance companies, who are usually reluctant to accept fault until they see the police report.
