An elderly male pedestrian was killed in Sunset Beach Sunday night when he was struck by a hit and run driver.
The accident happened about 9:45 p.m. on Pacific Coast Highway near 11th St. Motorist Laura Ferreira, a 27-year-old Huntington Beach resident, was southbound on PCH in a white 2006 Nissan Xterra. She veered right and struck a 72-year-old male pedestrian who was preparing to get into his legally parked car, a silver 2015 Ford Fiesta, which was parked in front of a post office. After hitting the victim, Ferreira fled the scene.
A witness told police officers that the hit and run driver’s car was parked a mile down the road from the accident scene. Officers determined that the Xterra had damage consistent with hitting a pedestrian. Driver Ferreira was interviewed by officers and arrested for felony hit and run resulting in death, and on suspicion of DUI.
The victim was transported to UCI Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of relatives.
