A female pedestrian was killed when she was mowed down by a car in Hawthorne on Thursday.
The accident happened about 8:35 p.m. on Doty Ave. According to the Hawthorne Police Department, a man and woman were arguing in the middle of the street. The woman’s mother, age 67, arrived and got caught in the middle of the argument. The man, 25-year-old Amir Bass, got into his car to leave. As he was driving away, he hit the 67-year-old woman, causing her death. The victim’s daughter, age 32, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
The driver fled the scene. Hawthorne police located him and his car shortly after the accident. He was taken into custody.
