A single vehicle crash on the Long Beach (710) Freeway on Monday night left a baby girl and her parents dead.
The car accident happened at about 10:55 p.m. on the southbound 710, south of Long Beach Blvd. The mother, 19-years-old, was driving a 2001 Ford Explorer. Also in the vehicle were her baby daughter, Sophia Gutierrez, and the baby's father, 20-year-old Abel Israel Gutierrez. The mother (whose name has not been released) lost control of the SUV, veered off the freeway, and crashed. The vehicle rolled several times and came to rest on the Union Pacific railroad tracks, next to the freeway.
The SUV was so mangled that it took 25 minutes for Long Beach Fire Department crews to cut the victims out of the wreckage.
CHP officers are still investigating what caused the driver to lose control of her SUV.
