Tractor-Trailer and SUV Crash on PCH in Long Beach, Killing Woman

|

A woman was killed Monday morning in Long Beach when the SUV in which she was riding collided with a big rig on Pacific Coast Highway.

The accident happened about 9:13 a.m. The driver of a Chevy Blazer, a 48-year-old Long Beach resident, was eastbound on PCH. He attempted to turn left onto Martin Luther King, Jr., Ave., when his SUV struck a tractor-trailer which was westbound on PCH.

The Blazer's driver and his front-seat passenger, 54-year-old Long Beach resident Sonia Esperanza Rodriguez, were ejected from the vehicle. Neither was wearing seatbelts. The tractor-trailer then struck Rodriguez, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV's driver and 21-year-old back-seat passenger, also a Long Beach resident, suffered minor injuries, according to Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Lisa Massacani.
