A head-on two-vehicle car accident in Downey on Saturday night killed a Downey resident.
The accident happened about 11:40 p.m. on Artesia Blvd. near the Van Ness Ave. intersection. An unidentified 53-year-old man was westbound on Artesia Blvd. The man lost control of his car and veered into oncoming lanes. He slammed head-on into a car traveling eastbound on Artesia Blvd.
Gustavo Pizarro, a 31-year-old Downey resident, who was the driver of the eastbound car, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The driver of the car that lost control was transported to a local hospital for treatment; he was listed in good condition.
According to Lt. Fred Corral of the county coroner's office, drugs or alcohol are not believed to have been a factor in the accident. Test results, however, take six weeks.
