An elderly pedestrian was struck and killed by an elderly driver in Long Beach on Wednesday.
The accident happened at 10 a.m. The 89-year-old driver of a black 2006 Lincoln Mercury was southbound on Redondo Ave. The pedestrian, 71-year-old Michael Handebeaux, a Long Beach resident, was crossing the street at the intersection of Redondo Ave. and 11th St. The driver struck the pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3 p.m.
No charges are pending against the driver, who remained at the scene to render aid.
