A man shot and killed one of two pit bulls that was attacking a woman and the horse she was riding.
The incident happened in San Dimas on Saturday about 8:58 a.m. The pit bull attack happened in the area of Foothill Blvd. and Walnut Ave.
A male San Dimas resident saw a pit bull latch and lock onto the horse's upper leg. The female rider was knocked off the horse and the horse went down. The man fired shots at the pit bull, breaking his lock on the horse's leg.
The surviving dog was taken into custody by the Department of Animal Control. According to Sheriff's Lieutenant David Vega of the San Dimas station, the dogs could have come from a local residence or a pit bull rescue.
