Question:
I was driving for DoorDash, delivering food. I was in a car accident with a hit-and-run driver. The other driver ran a red light and T-boned me, then fled the scene. I didn’t get the license plate number. Does DoorDash provide uninsured motorist coverage for its drivers?
Answer:
No, DoorDash does not provide uninsured motorist coverage for its drivers. If you have uninsured motorist coverage on your personal auto insurance, it’s possible that coverage would apply. But it depends on the wording of your auto insurance policy. Your policy may exclude coverage for accidents that occur while driving for work (the “business use” exclusion).
DoorDash does provide Occupational Accident Insurance to its drivers. The benefits, however, under this coverage are very limited.
If you were injured in a car accident while logged into the app and driving for DoorDash or PostMates or UberEats, you should speak with a car accident lawyer to find out your rights.
